Due to the increasing interest to Lviv as the place of great architectural and historical heritage, numerous cultural and art projects are organized to attract attention to modern cultural life in the city. Some of them are about classic art, others - for alternative tendencies in modern culture. Herewith we present some of the festivals and cultural events organized in Lviv for the next few months. Apart from major and widely advertised events Lviv is proud to present a variety of less pompeous but still charming and original events throughout the year. August
21-24 August - "Kinolev" Film Festival: short films demonstration dedicated to the Ukraine Independance Day. 20-24 August - IV International Folklore "Ethnovyr" festival: folk and ethnocultural festival with parades, national dishes presentation and numerous performances. Participants from Italy, France, the Basque country and Burundi. 28 August - 4 September - The Days of Performance Art in Lviv & the School of Performance is the first and currently the sole one annual Festival of Performance Art in Lviv and in Ukraine! This year the Days of Performance Art will be joined as a curator by Tamar Raban from Israel and the known Israeli performers Ya'acov Chefetz, Beni Kori and Kineret Max will accompany her at the Festival. Besides, the Festival looks forward to the participation of the young performers from Poland - Joanna Ogrodnik, Sylvester Pyasetsky, Michal Dyakovski, the radical artists from Russia - Alexander Shaburov and Vyacheslav Mizin (the Siniye Nosy art-group). Ukraine will be represented by Vlodko Kaufman, Miroslaw Wajda, Volodymyr Topiy and Vasyl Bazhay.

14-18 September - XVIII Publisher's Forum (Forum Vydavtsiv) 23-25 September - V Coffee Festival. During the festival, everyone can take a tour through the coffee houses of Lviv that participate in the contest and taste the special "festival" coffee. On this day, all participating establishments prepare coffee of exclusive grades and by exclusive recipes to create a true celebration in honour of the world's favourite drink. After that people vote for the venue they liked most. By the end of the day the Coffee Queen announce the winner of people's vote.

1-10 October - The Golden Lion Theatrical Festival. It is not just a street festival, but a European theatrical tradition, and one of the most prestigious forums of Ukraine. Every evening the square before Lviv Opera House turns into a stage for free-of-charge performances and street carnivals: stilts parades, mime and clown shows, fireworks, and a spectacular fire show that can leave no one indifferent. Another event, more of a chamber type, takes place at the same time: theatrical performances inside the theatres of Lviv. Among them are performances of world renown as well as opening nights presented by Lviv theatres. 8-10 October - II Cheese and Wine Festival17-31 October - Diapason Organ Music Festival - the longest organ music festival in Ukraine is a qualitatively new phenomenon in the musical space of Lviv and Ukraine.In terms of organ culture development, the old Lviv competed with Krakow, Warsaw, Prague, Vienna, Poznan, and Vilnius. The task of the new festival is to return the honourable title of the organ music centre to Lviv and present high artistic traditions. 25-30 October - Lviv Fashion Week: Lviv Fashion Week is one of the biggest fashion-related events in Ukraine and Eastern Europe. Lviv Fashion Week presents pret-a-porter and pret-a-porter de luxe collections of clothes and accessories. The project is aimed at creating a competitive fashion centre with all the accompanying infrastructure, promoting light industry development, supporting of new designers and introduction of famous European designer brands into the Ukrainian market. Lviv Fashion Week is held twice a year, in spring and in autumn, and offers a quality ground for fashion defile and collection shows. Designers present seasonable collections in multiple daily runway shows and exhibition showrooms.

24-26 November - III Tourism Conference in Lviv "Win with the Lion": a three day event of seminars, presentations, exhibitions of new tourist packages, and round-table discussions about leading business strategies in tourism industry

Lviv Christmas Fair - the Annual Christmas Fair is a center of celebration, which offers many interesting events: carols, games, sweets and mulled wine, a traditional Ukrainian meal “varenyky”, souvenirs and presents, and of course a warm festive atmosphere. International Festival "Jazz Bez" - the zest of the Festival – it unites all possible jazz styles (swing, fusion, bi-bop, jazz-rock, funk, cool, free jazz ...) and improvised music.

Christmas in Lviv: a series of activities held mainly in the central part of the city
"Ignition of the Christmas Star": restoration of the tradition to make big Christmas stars (1.5-2 m) (place: 7 January - Shevchenkivsky Hay (skansen), 8 January - central part of Lviv: a walk of carol singers) I V City Doughnut Festival:the inner courtyard of City Hall will be filled with the great aroma of a huge number of home-baked doughnuts, and there will be a very warm homey atmosphere. All guests will have the chance to learn the history and the best recipes of this delicious Christmas dish as well as just have a really good time. "Our Christmas" - performances at Lviv Opera House with authentic Ukrainian carols interpreted and theatrical performance (live music) "Ethno Disco" a folk music party initiated by a famous Ukrainian rock singer Oleh Skrypka (founder of the ethno-festival "Krayina Mriy" ("Land of Dreams"))

11-14 February - Chocolate Celebration - this year during the festival there would be an improvisational chocolate factory, the best confectioners will demonstrate the complicated process of chocolate making for everyone to see. Location - The Palace of Arts, 15 Kopernika st.

9 March - Taras Shevchenko's Birthday: Shevchenko celebrations usually take place on the square situated near the T. Shevchenko monument. You will be able to enjoy his poems, and listen to his songs.

24-30 April - Celebration of Easter (Shevchenkivsky Hay (skansen), central part of Lviv) Lviv Fashion Week - a chance to get acquainted with local desighners and to watch the collections of the designers from the neighbouring countries "Book Forum for Children" dedicated to children' literature with various contests and bright presentation of books.
“Flugery L’vova” (“Weather-Vanes of Lviv”) – the 9th International Jazz Festival
May
1 May - V Lviv Batyar Day ("batyar" is a witty galant yet penniless young man; this phenomenon was typical for Lviv at the beginning of the XX c.) Concerts of Batyars’ bands, different comedy competitions, and quizzes for children, a retro movie festival, Batyars’ song and dance master-classes for everybody, as well as tasty refreshments and drinks are everywhere to enjoy for all the participants of the city holiday. Lviv - Capital of Handicrafts (numerous workshops of how to make something unusual with your own hands; exhibitions of different works by all kinds of craftsmen): Pidvalna str., Rynok sq., Arsenalna sq. 8-10 May - Lviv City Day: theatrical performances, numerous activities all around the city. 13 May - 5 June - the 30th “Virtuosi” (“Virtuosos”) festival is a popular three-week summer season of daily classical music concerts. Location - Lviv Regional Philharmonic Society Concert Hall (7, Tchaikovsky st.).

“Young Talents in Ward of King Danylo” Festival of young painters: Each year the festival invites more than 500 hundred talented Ukrainian children to take part in the open-air painting session in Lviv.
Alfa Jazz Fest - Alfa Jazz Fest is a festival on an international scale that will take place in Lviv. The festival will not only bring the world’s best jazz artists together; it will plunge the city into the spirit of European-level music performance during an incredible summer weekend.
“Fairy-Tale in the Groove” - The 8th theater festival for children - in front of the old village cottages and on the picturesque lawns the heroes of the fairy tales revive. Old Leo, Kind Fairy and Hayovyk (Kind Wood Goblin) invite little kids to participate in the show. The “Entertainment Glade” and “Tale-Narrators’ Glade” are offering children funny games and meetings with the famous fairy tale narrators and fabulists.
10-12 May - II City Beer Fest: The main element of the festival is an ethno-theatrical programme that makes this feast different from other beer festivals organized ever before. The celebration is based on folk music, dances and games combined with sampling various beer brands.
