When travelling abroad we sometimes forget to think about peculiarities of the ways of life in another country. In some cases they differ in different cities of the same country. So here are collected the most important facts about Kyiv ways of life.

Main current is 220 Volt (50 Hertz). Not all sockets are fit for European or US electric appliances, therefore carrying a universal adapter and voltage transformer is essential if you plan to use your laptop, electric toothbrush, etc. 

Cold/hot water supply is round-the-clock in Kyiv.

It is advisable not to take big sums of money with you, do not exchange money on the street, when using public transport watch your luggage, hand bags or pockets. Do not take taxi with strangers. Obeying these simple rules will make your stay safe and pleasant. 

City municipal transport means is : tube, trams, trolleys, buses, funicular and marshrutni taksi (or marshrutky).
Tube is the fastest and the most convinient means of transport in Kyiv. Fare equals 2 UAH per token (or ¨zheton¨). If you stay for a month than you may buy ticket card (or ¨proyizny kvytok¨) for 25 UAH that is valid for a month. There are other types of such tickets: Tube - Bus (33 UAH), Tube - Tram (33 UAH), Tube - Trolleybus (33 UAH), Tube - Bus - Tram - Trolley (57 UAH).

Tram, trolley, bus and funicular fare is 1 UAH. An average fare of marshrutne taxi is 2 UAH.
Operating hours: 6.00 am - 11.30 pm. 

Taxi is the most comfortable way to get where you want though you may spend as much time as by any other means (due to traffic jams). Here is some information about taxi rates in Kyiv: 

ALLO - Taxi: 200-0-200 (minimal tariff - 15 UAH; central districts - 20 UAH; city tariff - 1,70 UAH/per 1 km).
Premium - Taxi: 227-1000 (minimal tariff - 15 UAH; city tariff - 1,60 UAH/per 1 km).
